Woodbridge Club - 2009 Swim And Dive Team

The Woodbridge Club welcomes back our returning swimmers and their families and invites all our new families with children to join us this swim season. Our team features our two experienced coaches who have worked with children of all ages for many years. The Head Swim Coach is Jennifer Lyman, a professional coach who has worked with several different competitive programs in the greater New Haven area. Our Diving Coach is Assistant Club Director Jeff Syrop who is a certified teacher and was a championship diver. Jeff also assists Jen pool side wrangle the younger crowd of WC swimmers and run all the meets flawlessly. Both coaches have coached championship athletes on the high school and club level and well as new competitive swimmers and divers. We are pleased to have both Jen and Jeff running our program this season. The Woodbridge Club is a member of the Southern Connecticut Swim League (SCSL), which includes the swim teams from the Paugusset Club, Paradise Country Club, High Lane Club, Copper Valley Club, and Farms Country Club.

This swim season will begin June 22nd. The first week of swim practice will be held in the evenings from 4:00 to 5:00. Please check the registration form for specific detail on sessions for different ages. Beginning the week of June 27th regular practice times will begin. 6 & unders and work primarily on Freestyle and Backstroke along with diving and streamlining. The remaining swimmers will work on stroke technique and yardage. Coach Jen will also set up special session for extra work possibly in the morning. This is a great opportunity for high school athletes, or swimmers entering high school, to get some stroke technique and personal work out time. If you already swim for another recognized swim team, you may be able to swim as a graduate.

Jen is also offering stroke clinics for all swimmers wishing to perfect their stroke technique.  This is for all swimmers.  Concentrated time on strokes is the best way to improve swimmer's times and give them life time swimming skills. Check the swim and dive team registration for details and scheduled times.

There will be a new team suit this season. The Metro Swim Shop representative, Debbie Cosme, will be at the club on Friday June 24 at 4:30pm for a team suit fitting. If you feel as though your child may or may not swim, we urge you to purchase a team suit anyway because the season is so short most likely if you wait to order one the suit may not arrive before the end of the season. Team caps will be given to any swimmers that would like one. Any additional apparel such as T-shirts or sweatshirts will be ordered through a team parent.

The Southern Connecticut Swim League has meets on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Swimmers earn ribbons for their participation in the swim meets. As an annual team tradition, we will be having a Pep Rally June 24 where we order food, the kids make posters and learn cheers and the team picture is taken. Also at the Pep Rally parents will be given information on meets and league rules; have an opportunity to sign up to help at swim meets, and have all your questions answered. Look for information about the team suit fitting and the pep rally posted on the boards at the club. The season culminates with League Championship Trials and Finals. All swimmers may participate in Trials. The Woodbridge Club holds an awards banquet after the league championships, and it's always a fun and exciting event.
